A Positive Perspective

As the television develops so do our minds. In the short story, Can TV Improve Us, by Jane Rosenzweig, she reveals polls conducted by the Roper Organization, “By 1991, 37% of all U.S. adults claimed to have refrained from drinking at least once in order to serve as a designated driver, up from 29% percent in 1989 (Rosenzweig 163).” This was a result of televisions “Designated Driver Campaign.” Clearly, not all the effects of television are negative. Television provides opportunities to explore new and different cultures. Also, it allows people to observe important social events, such as politics and current issues, occurring locally and throughout the world. Sports channels, entertainment programs, and enrichment(how-to-do) shows have potential to enrich peoples lives. Through television people are able to experience a variety of subjects. Television makes these experiences inexpensive and convenient. Programs concerning morals and relationships build special skills that can be useful in everyday life. The television introduces behaviors, provides information and broadens horizons that society may not have been exposed to otherwise. The use of the T.V. allows many people to acknowledge such things as comedy, violence, health and social issues. The television has made many people more conscious of their 2 environment and has provided many educational opportunities which proves that its existence is beneficial to society. Television is a major home entertainment source.
