How does it affect the body
Anabolic-androgenic steroids are a man made substance related to male sex hormones. Anabolic refers to muscle building, and androgenic refers to increased masculine characteristic. Steroid refers to the class of drug. Today athletes and other abuse anabolic steroids to enhance performance and also to improve physical appearance. They are taken orally or injected usually in cycles of weeks or months referred to as cycling. Anabolic steroids affect the body by releasing testosterone the male sex hormone. Testerone produced primarily by the testes, is responsible for the masculinization and muscle growth during male adolescent. Anabolic steroids increase muscle size and strength.
How does it enhance performance
Anabolic steroids enhance performance by giving to the taker increases in strength and muscle significantly beyond those not using the drug. The alarming growth in strength and muscle appears to result from the effect anabolic steroids have on lessoning the recovery time required after exercise. Athletes therefore are able to train at greater intensity and for longer periods so reap the benefits of extra training compared to their opponents who are at a disadvantage.
