Analysing A Touch Footbal Player

The purpose of this assignment is to analyse a selected person's performance in relation to his/her ability in skill learning in the game of touch. This essay will contain a training program and schedule for Subject 1 – Sam Ingram a sixteen year old male. He will be analysed for strengths and weaknesses, individual player skills and the particular phase of skill learning he has reached.

During our school instruction in touch we have been taught the different skill classifications. There are several different ways of classifying skill types
These include:
• Discrete skills - An action with a distinct beginning and end.
• Continuous skills - movements with no distinct beginning or end or simply an activity that continues for an unspecified amount of time.
• Serial skills - A combination of discrete skills to create a continuous performance.
• Gross motor skill - A developed ability that involves using large parts of the body or the movement of the whole body. Examples of this are doing a somersault or kicking a ball.
• Fine motor skills - The ability to involve the movement of small muscle groups, for example writing or painting.
• Open skill - An externally affected skill where the timing of the skill depends on the factors external to the performer an example of this is the timing of a football tackle the factors affecting the performer include the opponents speed and direction and his/her ability to change either or both.
• Closed Skill - Is internally paced, and the performer is completely in control in of the timing of his or her actions.

There are seven phases of skill learning that can be determined for a touch performer, they are as following:

• PERCIEVING – The player is unable to plan movements and his or her actions are not smooth and continuous. They appear clumsy when a series of movements are linked together. The player is not a team...
