Zoroastrianism

Myth, being a vehicle for knowledge and information, helps us to understand the meaning to our existence and answers any questions as to why certain things happen. In F.J Streng, his article "Creation of Community Through Sacred Symbols," he helps us to understand why myth is so powerful which is demonstrated by the basic elements of ultimate transformation through sacred symbols. Also in Mary Pat Fisher's article "Zoroastrianism", helps us understand the religion and myth. The information we derive from the creation myth shows us how to make our lives meaningful and why there is a special reason for our existence.

The creation myth shows us how in the beginning everything was good and peaceful under the rule of Ahura Mazda, which is how the Zoroastrians believe it started. And unfortunately got disturbed by the evil Angra Mainu who introduces evil and peril into the world. The role of the Zoroastrian Community is to weaken Angra Mainu by judging your own deeds, words, and thoughts.

In F.J Streng's article "Creation of Community Through Sacred Symbols", the first element is "the problematic in the human condition." This shows us at the beginning of things there is always a sense of being lost, confused, and makes us ask questions as to why certain problems happen. This is why there are creation myths. They help us find the answers, and explain to us why there are such problems and what we can do to solve them. The Zoroastrian Creation Myth tells us that Ahura Mazda made everything good and fair until Angra Mainu came and tried to destroy everything, therefore Angra Mainu introduces all the evil, which create the problematic in the profane world.

The second element is "Ultimate Reality". This element shows us that myths provide us with information and truth. Ultimate reality in Zoroastrianism is the constant battle between Ahura Mazda and Angra Mainu. If we want to eliminate the "bad" we must imitate Ahura Mazda...
