Ten Commandments

Reflection 1: The Ten Commandments This was a childhood favorite. Our entire family along with the entire neighborhood would watch this movie and be in awe of its splendor and biblical “accuracy.” Easter was the season then and that tradition continues today with many families rallying around to see this classic with Charlton Hesston and Yul Brenner, two icons. Only until recent years has this become a disturbing movie for me. I guess you can call it enlightenment or revelation that is the other side of biblical literacy. We have taken the movie as ‘bible.’ The story is correct and accurate, it is preached with the image of a white skinned Moses against the backdrop of what is said to be accurate and true. Moses (Charlton Hesston) says in the movie, “blood makes poor mortar” but I contend that personal ideology makes poor mortar because as a foundation it attempts to sway the viewer to an agenda that may not be completely accurate.
