Position Paper

Like many that probably atten, I've been brought up in church. I attended an Adventist academy all my life and followed the routine of going to Sabbath school every Saturday morning and so on. Much of what I believed in was just because it was all I knew, whether I understood my beliefs or not. I remember always being told Jesus is coming soon and that salvation was just a gift; and all we had to do was accept it. As a child I accepted these beliefs without a question or doubt. As I got older and became an adolescent; I began to question many of the teachings I had been taught and had grown up with. This class has helped me strengthen my faith, understanding and has greatly enlightened me. It has assisted me in my assurance of my salvation, on the hope of the Second Coming, and of my commitment to the finishing of God's work.
Salvation means to be rescued or to be at peace forever. How could I, a sinner, receive salvation? Recently these were questions that were brought up to me, and as I thought about them I was burdened heavily. But instead of acknowledging them, and perusing to seek out the answers, I just simply brushed them aside. Many times we are too caught up with our sins that we forget that Jesus, who knew no sin, came and died for us so that in Him we might be made the righteous in the sight of God. At times I found myself trying to do everything I could to live a good life, anything and everything that had to do with church activities, witnessing, and just mainly good acts. I was doing them for all the wrong reason and I was caught up in what I was doing. In reality I know that we are saved "not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us" (Titus 3:5). Salvation is not complicated as we often make it to be.
