In terms of Catholicism, its profound depths of thought have either loosened themselves over the years or have become even more intense as religion has merged into a ‘concept’ of discussion. Once upon a time, subjective thinking of the people did not exist; one did not decide to be a believer or not, or pick and choose in which religion to believe in at all. ... With regards to the story of the three rings in Lessing’s Nathan the Wise and Freud’s clear view of religion in Civilisation and its Discontents, although written in two completely different epochs, it is evident that both views can still be related to today. ... Through there not being a single detail on any of the rings preventing them from being distinguished from one another portrayed the equal importance of each religion. ... “They couldn’t prove which ring was the true original ring, nor was this possible…anymore so than now we can prove which religion is the true one.” (Act 3, Scene VII, P87)
It is wrong to ask the dominance of one religion over another from the start as it can not be based on truth. ... Considering that this play was written in the late eighteenth century, to have asked such a question was absurd yet today, there is no hesitation as though religion (in this case Christianity since it is always being debated on) came with a price tag.
