Rahab

1. What does the Bible say about telling the truth and lying? There are many verses in the Bible that can be referenced when discussing telling the truth and lying. The Bible clearly states in Proverbs 12:22 –"lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, But those who deal truthfully are his delight." We are judged by every word that comes out of our mouths. Jesus Christ himself states, "But I tell you that men will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned." (Matthew 12:36-37). God has denounced explicitly any form of lying and has made it clear that those who commit such a sin without repenting shall spend eternity "in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone which is the second death" (Revelation 21:8). Ephesians 4:15-16 says, "But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love." If we, as the body of Christ, are to mature and grow up we must conform to the truth which is Jesus. The devil is behind every lie and as Christians we are admonished not to lie to one another. That means if we are going to experience God in worship, or if we are going to experience the pleasure of genuine worship of God, we have got to tell the truth about ourselves to one another.
2. Did God hold Rahab accountable for her lie? Rahab lied, true, but God never complimented this action. She was a heathen, but in spite of her distasteful background, she had developed a genuine faith in Jehovah (Josh. 2:9). She referred to Him as "God in heaven above, and on earth beneath...."...
