Anytime I thought about being a mother prior to Scott’s arrival, I always pictured myself rocking my baby in a wooden rocking chair while singing Mother Goose nursery rhymes. The parental responsibilities that I would encounter did not enter my mind. I was aware of the physical responsibilities for taking care of Scott. However, I did not realize that the spiritual responsibility that I had as a parent was just as important.
Fortunately, I come from a Christian family and my parents are very religious. I attended church twice on Sundays and once for a mid-week service at the minimum. After I graduated high school, I attended church less and less. Then, I graduated from business college, got married, and moved to another small town about 45 miles away from where I had been raised my entire life.
