Rebekah schemes and draws Jacob into a plan to deceive Isaac and gain Esau’s blessing. This is quite interesting because here Rebekah is taking matters into her own hands (as Jacob did when taking advantage of Esau in a moment of weakness to gain the birthright). God has already chosen Jacob and nothing can thwart that plan but Rebekah is going to make sure. So again, we see Jacob (at the urging of his mother) to take advantage of his weak father. To credit Jacob somewhat we do see him protesting the plan but more out of fear vice the fact that it was wrong. However, this seems to show that Jacob was a compliant son and tended to do what his mother wanted (as we will see again later). ... He knows that God has chosen Jacob but picked Esau as the favored one in direct disobedience. ...
Predictably, so, Esau was distraught over losing his rightful blessing and held a grudge towards Jacob, threatening to kill him when Isaac passes away (26:41). Rebekah hears of the plan and tells Jacob of her plan to send him away to Haran, where here brother Laban lives. ...
