Unlocking Jesus Words
1. Define the following terms as they refer to speech.
a) Exaggeration: regerding or representing as greater than is ture, or to make greater or more noticable.
b) Symbolism: The representation of something by the use of symbols.
c) Figure of speech: An expresttion of language. such as a metaphor, by which the literal meaning of a word is not employed.
2. A modern day example of exaggeration:
"There are like a thousand people in the line!"
This sentence means that there are alot of people in the line and by the sounds of it the speaker is a little impatient and can't wait untill its their turn in line.
3. Scripture A. (Mark 9:42-43)
In this passage jesus says " And whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around heck, he had been cast into the sea" and " And if your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; its better for you to live your life crippled, than having your two hands to go unto hell, into the unquenchable fire." In the second statement Jesus is not saying you should cut off your hand, but I believe he's trying to say if theres anything blocking your belief in him, get rid of it. In the first statement i believe jesus is trying to say that just because you might not believe in him doesnt give you the right to make others not believe, especially little children. Let them learn and trust God.
Scripture C (Luke 17:5-6)
In this passage Jesus says " If you had faith like a mustard seed you would say this too a mulberry tree,'be uprootedand be planted in the sea ; and it would obey you " By this statement i think jesus is saying that if we have true faith in him, we would drop our safe keeping and listen to him and do what he says.
