Fresh Start A New Life

A FRESH START—A NEW LIFE
Galatians 5
17(T)he sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. … 19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Here are symptoms of the old self, known as acts of the sinful nature: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry (having another higher power in your life other than God: for some it's their career, house, stocks, spouse, child, parent, hobby, sports, TV, a "cause," nature, the Internet, the cult of "self"--anything or anyone to which God comes in second) and witchcraft (the occult, channeling, New Age magic, etc.); hatred, discord (not just external discord with others, but inner discord: anxiety, conflicted feelings, worry, self-doubt, fear, obsessions, confusion, the ongoing battle between where we want to be in life and in relationships, and where we continue to find ourselves), jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like (which includes the overindulgence of any appetite: for spending, acquiring, eating, …); conceit, provocation.

When we start a new life in Christ, we begin to enjoy the fruit...
