Do You Think Revelations Are Real Or Just Psychological

Revelations are the ways in which God shows himself on earth. There are natural revelations, which can be discovered by reason, but there are also special revelations which require explaination. Christians insist that these revelations are true and essential to their knowledge of God. Many people, however, believe that revelations are simply psychological; that people alter the way they view events until they make sense as evidence of God's existence.

Christians say it is impossible to know a transcendant God without special revelation. God reveals himself by his grace to the world, as He loves us and wants us to know Him. The Bible, for example, was written and inspired by God. It tells stories of God and explains many points of life to us. Christians say that the Bible puts the words of God into language we can understand. Many people feel that reading the Bible is special, and this is proof that God is present when they are doing this. Another type of revelation which is more controversial is speaking in tongues and hearing voices. Many Christians say that people who experience these phenomena are special, chosen by God to experience his greatness. Some people also have their own experience of God, such as a conversion or an answered prayer. To a Christian, revelations are essential to understand God, and are also proof that God exists, because He has changed so many people's lives.

Many atheists say that people who believe in these revelations are psychologically unstable. They insist that there is no way these strange phenomena could really exist. People who claim to believe in these are either deluding themselves or psychologically unstable. This can be argued because many revelations, such as miracles and charismatic worship, are scientifically unsound and do not comply with the laws of science and nature.
