10. ... 2:170
Personal Experience:
What can I say about obedience other than I know both sides of it. I know what comes with obedience to the commandments of the Lord and I know what comes with disobedience. ... I get the Spirit with obedience and I lose him through disobedience.
It looks like I will be talking about obedience today. Obedience is that thing our parents wanted from us. ... But the doctrine of obedience reaches farther then the commands of mortal men; it reaches into the Heavens to our Heavenly Father. We must realize the importance of obedience to spiritual laws as well as temporal laws. ... McConkie defined obedience as such, “Obedience is the first law of heaven, the cornerstone upon which all righteousness and progression rest. ... “There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated– And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated” (D&C 130:20-21).
One of the choicest blessings we can receive in accordance to our obedience is the Holy Ghost. ... “Half obedience will be rejected as readily as full violation, and maybe quicker, for half rejection and half acceptance is but a sham, an admission of lack of character, a lack of love for him. ... If we know who is, why wouldn’t we give him our full obedience? ... And so it is with obedience. When we understand what lies beyond the word obedience, we will want to be obedient. ... “And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come” (D&C 130:19)
3. ... If such is the case, then where are we to look for an example in obedience? ... I want that more than anything in this universe and if it takes my complete obedience well than he can have it.
