1: COMPARE AND CONTRAST ONE FUNDEMENTAL BELIEF OF CATHOLICISM WITH ONE CORRESPONDING BELIEF IN THE BUDDHIST TRADITION. ... This example can be clearly shown in a comparison between the "10 Commandments" brought by Moses, which are believed by Catholics to be the word of God, and the "Eight Fold Path", which is part of the Four Noble truths of Buddhism. ... "
Buddhism and Catholicism both describe ways to live a noble life through their guidelines. So while their practices are different, they are clearly similar on some levels; they both show a path to follow to reach a higher place (Nirvana in Buddhism, Heaven in Catholicism). ... Some differences that are found with in these two religions is that the founder of Catholicism, Jesus Christ was the Son of The Father, God, while the founder of Buddhism, Siddhartha Gautama was a normal human being, who achieved enlightenment through meditation and later on was referred to as The Buddha. Another difference found is that Catholicism promises forgiveness off all sins but then Buddhism, because there is no God to offend, doesn’t promise to forgive and forget the sin but for the individual to eventually work his own way to enlightenment where he will be somewhat free and also Catholicism has a distinctly defined teaching in the after life which is heaven or hell, whilst Buddhism teaches reincarnation, and has only a nirvana where a man no longer remains a man.
