Book Of Job
The story of Job is a compelling story of a man who suffers a tremendous amount of anguish. Through all his suffering, Job does not lose his faith in God. The story emphasizes the fact that good people do not escape the torture of evil. The story begins one day by Satan challenging God to allow him to strike Job with misfortune. Satan proposed that once Job is faced with the torment of evil, he would curse against God. God accepted Satan's challenge. Soon after, Job found himself deprived of his house, farm animals, and all his children. Then Job was then inflicted with painful sores all over his body. Job was pressured by his wife and three friends to refrain his piety to God, but he give in. In the end, God came down and scolded Job's friends for their wrongful advice and rewarded Job in the most generous way.
The book of Job demonstrates important aspects and reactions that reflect life. Evil plays a significant role in the onset and endurance of personal misfortune. Evil is an unescapable fact, but more importantly, so is goodness. At the end of the story, Job was rewarded with a new home, fortune, and children; goodness prevailed. The story of Job has been reviewed by a rabbi named Harold S. Kushner. In what book? Kushner has provided much insight as to why good people must suffer. Part of his reasoning lies within three assertions that people would like to believe about God and the book of Job.
A.God is all-powerful and causes everything that
happens in the world. Nothing happens without His
willing it.
B. God is just and fair, and stands for people getting what they deserve, so that the good prosper and the wicked are punished.
C. Job is a good person'(Kushner, 1981).
