Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Spirituality (Yolngu Boy)
Milika, Botj and Lorrpu are three Yolngu (aboriginal) kids from the Top End of Australia – homeboys in a hood, a thousand miles from anywhere! Caught in a collision between the brave new world of rap, football, street creed and the oldest living culture on earth, the three teenagers defy the law and embark on an epic journey to chase their dreams and confront their futures.
A unique film that explores the bonds of friendship between three teenagers on the verge of manhood.

1. There is an initiation process that all three of the boys had and then the ceremony marking the transition into manhood, which only Lorrpu and Milika participate in. These two have been chosen by Dawu who is the most powerful of the elders. I think that the initiation that all three of them had was a ritual that everyone had and they didn't really have a choice in the matter. The transition into manhood however is much more significant and important. To Lorrpu it is an important step in his life towards becoming an elder one day. It is also important to Milika, but he doesn't want it as much as Lorrpu does. The transition into manhood for Botj means little, but he slowly grows to want it more and more throughout the film and their journey to Darwin.

2. Lorrpu and Milika are more respectful towards Dawu than Botj is. Probably because they have been chosen by Dawu to take part in the ceremony marking their transition into manhood. I think Botj envies the two boys for this. Lorrpu is much more interested in traditional understanding and practices and looks up to Dawu more than the other two.
Dawu is very important because he is the most powerful of the elders. To the boys Dawu means ceremony. Dawu, the word itself, means crocodile, which is their totem and spirit ancestor.

3. The song lines help the boys by enlivening their spirits, motivating them and healing them...
