Throughout the Old Testament, God holds his people accountable for their actions. If they break the covenant with him, he punishes them to make them learn a lesson and return to the covenant. In times of crisis, God sends prophets to the people to help them interpret the covenant in their times so that they can return to God. Amos is a great example of God sending a prophet to reinterpret the covenant to the people. Amos tells the people that God holds all nations responsible for their breaking of the covenant, and they must all repent and return to the covenant.
