A.1 Summary
This report has been prepared as an analysis of staff performance and performance management regarding Project development work within Safer Communities Services (SCS)) in order to suggest ways that performance may be improved.
Its objectives are therefore to provide analysis of possible causes and influencing factors and to recommend possible solutions to any issues found to need resolution.
A.2. Background information – report in context
An examination of both the performance and performance management of this service area of Hackney Council is timely, especially as the Borough is currently undergoing a process of modernisation and organisational restructuring brought about by central government directives and legislation. In addition the authority as a whole is trying to gain "Investors in People" status
The process of change is also generating substantial amounts of project work in terms of introducing a structure Project Management Culture, delivering an adaptation of Prince 2 Project Management methodology and training within Safer Communities as well as the project templates to be developed and policies and procedures that need to be rewritten.
In this context, a review of respective strengths and weaknesses of current practice and recommendations for improving future practice will be helpful in ensuring that performance of staff and projects will be championed effectively.
