Gicela Nufio Philosophy Final Exam WEEK 5 This week’s discussions were very interesting. The discussion that was on my mind for a while was on the issue of why people seem to be poor. During class, two of my peers where talking about how they did not understand why people are poor. One of them explained that her parents, whom were immigrants, came to America and successfully on their own rose to the top and are now living a good life. I am glad to hear that through there own struggle they were able to overcome all the difficulties they faced and were able to provide their family a comfortable life. The thing here is that not all families who come to America in search for a better and more comfortable life are fortunate to find that. Not everyone has the same opportunities and opened doors as other do. Some of the people who come to live a good life is due to who they know, where they live, who they are and the skills that they have. Maybe her parents were luck and where at the right place at the right time, but not everyone has that type of luck. It mad me made to hear my peer say that she did not understand why people are poor. My parents came from a poor town and they ended up living a good life, but I do not criticize those that did not rise above. I believe that one must never judge, criticize another human being because you have not lived their life, faced their difficulties, or felt their struggle. It also boggles my mind that while one person works hard, long, demeaning hours, another person goes to a nice air conditioned office and types on a computer. I do not believe in the capitalist view that if someone works hard they will gain what they Gicela Nufio 2 deserve. This is not true. The truth is that it all depends on who you know, where you live, how much money you make and the social status you fall under. It is unfair that the people who are born into low-class family will most likely stay there. So when I hear people putting down the one’s that are in that situation it makes me very angry. WEEK 6 While reading, many questions came to mind such as: 1. Why do these individuals care so much about what others think about them? 2. Is it good that one depends on others opinions and company so much? Why couldn’t they just forget about the other people who were there within and block them out of their minds? As I read, these questions ran through my head constantly. I kept relating my life to what was going on in the story. It seemed to me that reading this story was like reading a soap opera because there seemed to be so much drama. There is a huge difference in who we are, who we think we are, and who others think we are. One must first realize that we should accept who we are because it is sometimes different from who we want to be or who we think we are. In this case we must not fool ourselves into believing something we are not. Other people will never know who we are because they are not inside your head or heart. Others will always see you different from who you really are according to what you reveal. Freud-The Wolf Man I. Psychoanalysis Unconscious Conscience II. The patient lived an unhealthy life.
