The Age of Discovery is a period preceded by the unknown. There were little records of past cultures and no actual study of these cultures. This was a period where exploration prevailed. People knew very little or nothing about other societies and speculated about their culture. Only through exploration did people understand that other societies were much like themselves. Not only were they physically alike, but also their social structure was similar. Prince Henry decided to try to give Portugal a share in the riches of Africa. Holding Ceuta did not work - it used to be one of the richest cities, but that was lost once it had become Christian. The only way would be to go around the Muslim territory of Morocco, directly to the lands where the gold, silver, and many more products came from themselves. In 1414, the Portuguese attacked the Moroccan city of Ceuta.
