Personal Statement

I have had the chance to experience the hardships of adulthood first hand. After high school, I decided to start my family without the priviledge of getting an educational background. By the age of thirty, I had three children, two ex-husbands, and a lot of dead-end jobs under my belt. I realized that I did not have an adequate education to support my children. Because of the situation I was in, I decided to major in Radiology.
I am especially interested at this point in working with people in a trauma setting. Two experiences have created this interest. My first experience came from working as a radiology clerk at a hospital. I really enjoyed interacting with the patients and the doctors. My second experience involved assisting the radiologist complete his rounds with the patients. I even witnessed a patient getting a central line inserted into her main artery. It was a very exciting event for me and one of the things that helped me decide to choose radiology. I experienced the complex challenges of helping others.
In the major, I want to gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will make me a wonderful technician. By studying hospitals and the practices of radiology, I hope to learn how to be proficient in helping people. When the child that has been in an accident comes in crying with fear, I want to be a part of an effective setting that can help implement care and service.
I believe strongly in the value of all people and am interested in the well-being of others. As a radiologist, I would strive to make patient care better, whatever their problem.
