A Letter To A Friend...

A small sparrow flutters anxiously in the cool breeze before me.

Its likeness brings a haze to my eyes…
The bird's image reminds me of you as your beautiful face fills my mind
Warm remembrances fill my heart
Your original ideas, your infectious spirit, your hilarious jokes… always with me

I smile… the bird has landed softly next to me.

My mind races, never pausing long on one memory of you
…the camping trips, birthday parties, vacations, family gatherings
Who could forget the chipmunk rock?

A tear slowly meanders down my cheek… the sparrow has spread her wings and lifted off.

I miss your infectious smile and your constant laughter
the way you told a story…
…we laughed together, we cried together
Those long endless summers…
Always seemingly we had tomorrow…

I'm crying now… the sparrow is gone.

Your friends talked to me at your funeral… they knew me well
"You were her favorite" they said,
My friends too, know you well, for I have never stopped talking about you
Everyone now has seen how deep I've mourned your passing
I wonder if you were aware that you were also my favorite?

I laugh… the sparrow is back!

Your memory begins to rest comfortably in the back of my mind
We've grieved together over the years… we said goodbye to so many…
Your feigned optimism, your kind words, helped all of us to carry on
Now we struggle to continue without you. Your spirit, will forever guide us.
Our lives will live on through you

I close my eyes. I sigh… the sparrow has once again spread her wings. She is on her way.

Your love has never been felt so deep. I miss you.

Perhaps the sparrow will rest now.
