Afriad To Speak
People are afraid to speak up for their beliefs due to the fact that they might not be heard and/or their beliefs will not be supported by others. It takes courage to be able to stand up for what you believe , even though the aftermath can be stressful. If it weren't for those enlightened people like Dr. Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Ghandi, and Abraham Lincoln who took a stand for what they believed the world wold not be as it is now. A land of the free, where all are treated equal and are given rights that protect us all. Even though the world we live in now is better than that of the early century to this day not all people have rights in which our ancestors fought and died for to give us. No one wants to be seen as an outcast or a black sheep. In most cases people don't want to be involved in a situation where they may be looked upon differently because of their thoughts. Our peers get the way of fighting for what we believe, people are afraid to stand alone and take charge. Even our traditions and religions can stop us for fighting for what we believe. I believe religion is practiced in such a closed-minded way that people won't ever dare to go against it. Take gay marriages, Christianity won't accept it, I dare to see the Christian public figure to freely go against the church. Governor McGreevy is banned from speaking in any Christian churches steps due to his belief in pro-choice. We as people should be able to fight for what we believe in as our ancestors fought for freedom. It's going to take the unity of all, putting aside the differences and looking at each other as an uniquely equal.
