All The Kings Men Spider Web Theory

The theory of the spider's web and how the slightest stir of wind can make the greatest ripple represents events in life and their overall effect. The observance of this can be seen throughout the pages of All the King's Men:

1. Willie Stark and his involvement in the Bryam B. White scandal and having an affair with his secretary, Sadie Burke, lead to his wife Lucy leaving him. The spider web metaphor applies with the entanglement of people and how jealously led to ended relationships. (pages 131-137)

2. The affair of Cass Mastern with the married Annabelle Trice caused the death of Duncan Trice and the selling of an innocent slave, Phebe. The spider web metaphor applies with the relationship of lovers and how it led to the suicide of a man and an innocent slave to be sold. (pages 174-178).

3. Tom Stark impregnating Sibyl Frey led Governor Stark to make political deals with Gummy Larson. It is through giving the building contract of the hospital to Gummy Larson that MacMurfee will silence Marvin Frey. The spider web metaphor applies with the pressures of people and how information in politics can nail even yourself. (pages 358-364)

4. Willie Stark and his need for Jack Burden to excavate the information about Judge Irwin's acceptance of bribery lead to the death of the Judge himself. The revealing that the Judge was Jack's father, and his mother's true love and her leaving the Young Executive. 5. Willie Stark having an affair with Anne Stanton leads to the angered Sadie Burke, the arousal of Tiny Duffy, and the deaths of Dr. Adam Stanton and Governor himself.
