On the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, there is a slum, which is a habitat of poverty, illness, drug and killing, called City of God. The residents were simply divided into two kinds by God, you can either become a hood, dealing drug, killing others and finally be killed; or you can go to school and work, take your every single step scrupulously and be grateful if you can see next day¡¯s sunshine. This is the story in movie City of God, and is what really happens in Rio¡¯s Favelas. Director Fernando Meirelles was trying to tell audience the most realistic face of Favelas by using handheld camera to shot this movie, telling the story with flash back and foreshadow the story in God¡¯s view. This is a God¡¯s city, God is the creator and relater, do not doubt. In this movie, audience is always placed into a character in City of God. Most sequences were shot by handheld, which is means that the camera is unstable. This give audience the feeling like they are watching this story happened by some character¡¯s eyes while Rocky was telling it. At the very beginning of this movie, there is a scene of grinding knife, probably is from knife grinder¡¯s view. Then a sequence of chasing chicken is given, the camera is very jouncy like the viewer is scurrying. The chicken¡¯s point of view was shot by low-level camera with low angle shot; the pursuers¡¯ view is high angle following (focus the chicken) shot. In 60s, Rocky went to beach with friends, through his camera focus we know he like Angelica very much, he kept on shooting her and could not stand her boyfriend in his pictures. There are 3 point of views of the plot when Rocky went to Blacky¡¯s apartment to buy joint and then Li¡¯l Ze barged in to take over the apartment. First framing is medium close-up, which is a Blacky¡¯s buddy¡¯s view. The second framing is a long shot from the back of the apartment in The Story of Apartment. (Might be the view of apartment). The third one began with a close shot at the back of Li¡¯l Ze, this could be a view of Li¡¯l Ze¡¯s buddy.
