The Patriot

In South Carolina Captain Benjamin Martin, the patriot, has a plantation. He is a father of six children and is raising them in the simple life of farming. He mourns his wife who died and worries that his past sins of the fort wilderness campaign will catch up with him. He and some men caught up with the Cherokee and French men, who raided settler men, women and children at fort wilderness and brutally took revenge. They tortured and mutilated their bodies sending pieces down the river for the Cherokee to see. Soon after the Cherokee broke their treaty with the French. He keeps this Fort Wilderness campaign a secret for his children.
Captain Martin's problems begin when he decides not to fight the British in a war which is later known as a Revolutionary War for liberty and when his son, Gabriel enlists as a soldier for the Continental Army without his father's permission. When the battlefront is in his front yard Gabriel comes home injured and exhausted. His father decided to help not only him but all wounded from both sides. British Colonel Tavington and his soldiers ride up to the plantation and witness the wounded being helped and orders all rebel soldiers to be executed. He orders his men to burn Captain Martin's house and barn and to kill the livestock but keep the horses for dragoons. The Colonel takes Captain Martin's black laborers as slaves to fight for the British army and in doing so will be come free after the war. He also finds out that Gabriel has rebel dispatches and orders him to be hung in Camden as a spy. Captain Martin pleads with the Col. Tavington but the colonel threatens to harm his children. Of course, Captain Martin backs down which upsets another son, Thomas tries taking matters into his own hands to try to rescue Gabriel and gets shot. The wound was so severe Thomas dies moments later. This enraged Captain Martin to the point he is already seeking revenge. When the British left his plantation they split into...
