The Deep End Of The Ocean
The Deep End Of The Ocean is a very compelling movie that focuses on the Cappadora family and their lives after the kidnapping of their son, Ben. Ben was only three years old when his brother Vincent and his mother were at a hotel when he was kidnapped. The kidnapping occurred when the mother went to the counter and left Vincent, his older brother, to watch his little brother and to stay put. Vincent was growing adjusted by the presence in the building and due to this frustration told his brother proverbial phrase "Get lost." The ironic part of this is that his brother did indeed get lost. When the mother came back and realized the son was missing she began to frantically search and with hours spent at the hotel it was apparent that the son was missing. The family continued the search for Ben for many years. This search resulted in many problems between the husband and the wife as well as causing some emotional changes in Vincent. After nine years the search ended up paying off because they were able to recognize one of the children in the community. This child was named Sam and it was revealed later that he was kidnapped by a old schoolmate of the wife named Cindy Lockhart who apparently had lost her child shortly after birth and underwent depression. Lockhart married and her husband adopted Sam and she committed suicide. Sam still underwent complications adjusting to the new household but eventually worked problems out and decided to live with his birth parents.
The relationship between the brothers is one that is kind of sad. The older brother, Vincent loved his brother greatly. The opening scene of the movie with the two brothers playing in the house and the way the little brother, Ben knows his brother will find him. This trust and love they share is deep. Vincent's remarks prior to the kidnapping, by saying "get lost" to his little brother caused many problems for Vincent. The love he has is still...
