Review of the Wizard of Oz
In 1939 one of the greatest movies of all time was released, The Wizard of Oz. The movie originated from L. Frank Baum's book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and was adapted by at team of accredited and unaccredited scriptwriters. The cast includes Dorothy played by the legendary Judy Garland, Jack Haley (Tin Man), Ray Bolger (Scarecrow), Bert Lahr (Cowardly Lion), Margaret Hamilton (Wicked Witch of the West), and Frank Morgan as the Wizard of Oz. The fact that this movie was made such a long time ago and has remained in the hearts of Americans proves this movie's timeless fantasy will continue on.
The plot or story of The Wizard of Oz truly begins once Dorothy's house is swept up by the tornado and planted down smack dab in the middle of Munchkin land. As soon as the door swings open and Dorothy steps out the screen is filled with beautiful color and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" begins to play. The entire tone of fantasy is set up and already the imagination is allowed to run rampant and reality is thrown out the door. You realize that anything can happen and that nothing is what it seems in the Land of Oz. When Dorothy steps out of her house and looks around at Munchkin land she says "Todo, I have a feeling were not in Kansas anymore." That just about sums it up. When Dorothy's house lands it kills the Wicked Witch of the East who was part of a duo of sister witches that terrorize the people of Oz. Glenda the Good Witch saves the ruby slippers that the Wicked Witch of the East by safely securing them on Dorothy's feet. From then on the Wicked Witch of the West becomes Dorothy's nemesis because the witch wants the slippers. Dorothy then begins her journey to Emerald City to see the wonderful Wizard of Oz. Along her way Dorothy meets several friends that accompany Dorothy on her adventure. The first she meets is Scarecrow who joins the trip to Emerald City to ask the wizard for a brain.
