Sometimes one must go through social discrimination and hardships to pursue their dreams. In the movie "Philadelphia", Andrew Beckett contracts the HIV virus and is near death. He has to cope with wrongful attitudes, many challenges and discrimination and in the end becomes a stronger person by doing so.

In life, people must deal with different attitudes daily. Whether it be a kind, encouraging one or a cold, mean one, they are there. Andrew Beckett knows the harsh reality of this. His family wants to help him all that they can and will be by his side until the end. While his employers and co-workers want to get rid of him because of his illness. These are two very different attitudes and even though Andrew was dealing with his disease he had to tend to unwanted attitudes.

To become successful in life one must overcome challenges. Andrew Beckett was on top of the world. He had just earned an enormous promotion and was feeling very good about himself when he found the news that he indeed had the HIV virus. His health was fading and he needed care badly but Andrew gathered all his strength together to fight for his rights. He also faced the challenge of taking a million-dollar corporation to court, and with his fading health proved that anybody can do anything.

As a society we try to be equal to all races and sexual preferences. But sometimes people get carried away. Andrew Beckett was a kind human being and deserved to be treated as an equal, but people just turned mean. He dealt with discrimination because of his disease and his sexual orientation, and for what? He didn't choose to get the disease. But even through this Andrew grew stronger where it counts mostÂ….in your heart.

As our world enters the new millennium, new views must be taken on life. We must free ourselves from this hatred and discrimination before it destroys us because that is what it will end up doing. I feel that if more people...
