Patton
The movie Patton follows General George Patton through part of his life as a war leader. It goes over a number of his serious problems as a general as well as a human being. He was a very smart and effective soldier who had trouble being a diplomat and a fighter simultaneously. Although he had a very tough side to him, he was compassionate, and this is shown in a number of instances, one of them being in the beginning when one of his men named Dick dies during a battle. At the funeral service they made up for him he says he was fond of Dick and he can't see the reason why such fine young men get killed when there are so many more battles to fight. Also, there was one scene where he visited all of the wounded soldiers, and as he kneels next to one he puts a cross over his pillow. One of his unmerciful actions comes with a big penalty. When a soldier has a mental breakdown in front of him, General Patton calls him a coward and immediately sends him away. This makes others think he has no empathy and also shows how his emotions can change from one moment to the next. Because of this, he is not used in some of the battles he would like to be and it used as a decoy. However, Patton was still a benefit to the war effort.
Even though he had his difficult times, he cared for his men and was affectionate with the people on his immediate workforce. Another one of his character traits was that he loved the past. He once said how he hated the 19th century and joked about how he lived through the 18th century.
Patton was set in Africa in 1943 during part of World War 2. The actor who played Patton was George C. Scott. The man who played his only friend was Karl Malden as General Bradley. Throughout the film Patton is going against one of the German leaders named Erwin Rommel who was played by Michael Bates.
