The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

The film is aptly titled since the story revolves around Frodo and his friends and their mission to transport a mystical and potent gold ring to its place of origin in Middle-earth. The ring needs to be destroyed where it was created, or it might fall into evil hands that could use it to take over the world.


III. Comments on the following:

A. Special Effects

This film would be impossible to make without special effects. The story is full of fantastic sceneries and creatures and today's computer technology renders the scenes credible.
There were a total number of 1200 special effects shots in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which is the most number in the history of film.

Among the computer generated scenes, one of the most amazing is when a massive wall of water forms and reforms into the wraiths of charging stallions. A few years ago, this scene would only be possible in cartoons. But today, the rendition is so life-like.

With all the special effects going on, it would have been too easy to lose tract of the story. Luckily, the director has remained faithful to the book and the sense of urgency in keeping the ring out of evil hands and bringing it to its place of destruction can be felt throughout the film.

B. Production

It is said that The Lord of the Rings was one of the biggest gambles in Hollywood history.
