Just Your Average Anime

In American cinema, movies directed towards adults, rarely, if at all, are in the form of animation. An American film containing the following: an animated cast of a little girl with a mind of a genius, a former gang member who faked his death, an ex-cop who states that he "bites and never lets go", a woman who awakens from an incident and does not know how old she is, and a dog who can understand much more than the humans around him, more than likely would not be of much importance to the adult American People. This is quite unfortunate, because such a well thought out cast, animated as it may be, is from the amazing Japanese Anime, Cowboy Bebop.
Cowboy Bebop is a well known anime series that was made in 1998 and directed by Shinichiro Watanabe. The story consists of an unsuspected group of characters by the names of Ed, Spike, Jet, Faye and Ein, the Welsh corgi who has the intellect of a human being. The story takes all of these characters and mixes them into a fantastic story and adventure with good and bad people; "There is action galore, moments of dry humor, and an incredible blend of computer and traditional animation" (Village Anime). Spike Spiegel is the main character who flies the space ship, Cowboy Bebop, along with his comrades, all of them which carry the title Bounty Hunter. They explore the galaxy trying to find villains they can catch for a good sum and end up saving innocent by standers along the way. Shinichiro Watanabe uses great animation and a stunning soundtrack which consists of up beat jazz and soulful blues, composed by Yoko Kanno.
In American films anime usually does not get the recognition that it should have. Japanese film makers put animation at the top of their list for films. In Japan, their unique style of animation is used in many forms, one of which to make every day films, like America would produce a film with real people.
