John Coffey
In the movie, The Green Mile, there is a character that is like a Christ figure to others. This character is John Coffey. In the movie, the writer does a remarkable job of illustrating an incredible man. It is an odd thought that this story takes place in a prison called The Green Mile. John Coffey is a convicted murderer that is sentenced to death after he serves time in the prison. Three examples of Coffey being a Christ like figure are how he was innocent of his crime, his caring heart and his cooperation.
First of all Coffey is convicted of a crime that he doesn't even commit. His size and intimidation factor may have something to do with his sentence. Coffey shows to have a magical power to show people how he feels and show people what really goes on. Coffey holds the hand of a prison guard and lets him see that he is an innocent man. He does not do this to show people he should be free but to honor himself and prove he is an innocent man. Coffey never once complains about being wrongly accused. He could easily use his magical powers to show everyone he is innocent but he has too much pride. Coffey cares more about others than himself.
This brings the point of him being a very caring person. Several times in this movie, John Coffey is sent to help people. His magical powers and also take diseases out of people and cure them. He cures the head prison guard of his urinary problem and he also helps cure the deathly disease of the old mans wife. Another example of caring is when he shares his bread with a few other inmates when he was told that he did not have to. Throughout the whole movie John Coffey proves to be a very gentle and kindhearted man. Although Coffey is an enormous man he still would not hurt anybody.
Lastly, John Coffey cooperates very well. Even though the man is accused of committing a crime that he really didn't do, he still does not put up a fight. He is bigger than anybody has ever seen but he...
