There are many different types of talk shows on television today. Some of them discuss topics that are somewhat educational or informative, for example the Oprah Winfrey show. Other talk shows include guests which are very trashy, rude, and ignorant. These shows are purely for bored people who want to see girls in bikinis and people yelling at each other. Jerry Springer and Jenny Jones talk shows have topics like "My teen daughter is out of control", "Geek to sheik", and "Extreme plastic surgery". After watching an episode of "My teen daughter is out of control", one can conclude that cultural and social factors are to blame for the problem.
One of the guests on the show was a 17 year old girl that had a major attitude problem, a drug addiction, and had been sexually active since the age of 12. Her mother accompanied her on the show and she made it obvious why her daughter acted that way. She had been a stripper with a drug problem and gave birth to her daughter when she was 16 years old. The young girl never knew who her father was and she had been raised with relatives until her mother stopped going in and out of jail. All the problems started when she moved in with her mother at age 11. She quickly learned her mothers ways and began to act just like her. She started drinking and smoking marijuana at the age of 12 and later on tried all the other drugs. She also became sexually active and it all went down hill from there. She had never given the relatives she lived with any problems and lived in a quiet neighborhood where she attended a good school. What changed her life around was her mothers activities and her new low class surroundings.
The main problem seems to be her mothers culture and way of living. The girl was a reasonably good person being raised by her relatives but the ways of her mother brought her down. Children usually look up to adults and want to be just like them, especially their parents.
