I am a mental health nurse and work on an acute admissions ward. I had never worked with anyone with HIV or AIDS before, until mid September. A patient was admitted who was homeless, had no family that we could contact, and had a diagnosis of AIDS. We knew that this could be a long admission, as it is difficult to get social situations sorted out from the acute ward.
