Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a play of woe and tragedy. This is because a family feud between the Montagues and Capulets are keeping the main characters Romeo and Juliet from being together, Romeo and Juliet die a young death, Juliet has to marry someone she doesn't love and Romeo killing himself not knowing about Juliet's plan of pretending to die. All these points make Romeo and Juliet a play of woe and tragedy.

The family feud between the Montagues and Capulets (2.3.all) is preventing Romeo and Juliet from being together. This is a source of woe and tragedy. Romeo and Juliet are hiding their relationship from their families and them from not being able to meet each other whenever they want. This is making them fall more and more in love and leading them to go behind their families' backs and secretly meet each other. This is an example of woe and tragedy.

In the play Romeo and Juliet, Juliet is told she has to marry Paris for whom she doesn't love. This is a source of woe because Juliet loves Romeo but they can't be together since they are from two different families having a fight. Juliet has no power in deciding who she wants to marry and if she repels from her father's decision, Lord Capulet says he will disown her as his daughter (3.5.167-168). These points together make a source of woe.

Another source of tragedy and woe is Romeo not knowing about Juliet's plan of pretending to be dead explaining which leads to Romeo and Juliet both killing them. This happens because a message sent by the friar sent to Romeo about the plan never reaches him (5.2.13-16). This is because of the bad timing of their deaths i.e. right when Romeo dies Juliet wakes up and she finds a knife and kills herself. Also if the message had reached Romeo their deaths wouldn't have happened and maybe Romeo and Juliet would have got away and lived happily ever after. This makes it a source of woe and...
