The original version of “The Deep End” made in 1949, “The Reckless Moment,” had the protagonists daughter involved in an affair with an older man, while “The Deep End” instead replaces this relationship with a son involved in a homosexual affair. ... “The Deep End” is a modernist version by upgrading to more contemporary social anxieties and controversies. ... “The Deep End” seems to almost demonize homosexual tendencies, perpetuating the “wrongness” of these types of relationships.
