Dissent and Activism in Panther

In the movie "Panther", Huey Newton was the ideal African-American to represent the Black Panthers. Newton and Bobby Seal started the Black Panther Party for Self Defense (BPP) in Oakland in the beginning of 1967, telling the young and older blacks to "defend yourself". Newton represents the idea of dissent because he took a step further than blacks that wanted change by actually taking action in his neighborhood. His activism, along with several other Black Panther members, challenged authority in a way that had never been seen before. ...
Huey Newton represents the idea of dissent because he went out of the norm from his role in society as a black man from the "ghetto". ... This is an example of dissent because he proved to the policeman that he wasnt doing anything wrong and that he knew the laws. ... This was an example of activism because Newton and the Panthers were taking direct actions to accomplish something for their community by doing so.
