Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story reveals the life of the man behind the legend - a life of awesome fighting skills, passionate romance and spiritual triumph over demons from without and within.

After a childhood of rigorous martial arts training, young Bruce (Jason Scott Lee) escapes the street brawls of Hong Kong to enter college in America, where racial taunts force him to unleash his powerful skills. But soon, as scorn changes to respect and opponents become allies, Lee opens his own kung fu school. Marrying a former student (Lauren Holly) who shares his dreams, Lee is discovered by a Hollywood producer and begins a meteoric rise to fame.

Shot two decades after Lee's death, Dragon was based on the book Bruce Lee: The Man Only I Knew by Lee's widow Linda. Director Rob Cohen made Dragon a film that resonates on several different levels. "First, as a kung fu film, with what I hope are spectacular fighting sequences," he said. "Second, as an interracial love story about beauty and struggle of two cultures, embodied in two people who love each other deeply. And, on a third level, as a mystical tale of fate, focusing on a man who struggled his whole life to embrace his destiny and overcome his demons."

The main star of the film is Jason Scott Lee who plays Bruce. There's no relation between the two. Though not a martial artist he was selected for the part because he best portrayed the mental and philosophical side of Bruce. Director Rob Cohen wanted an actor to play Bruce and not a martial artist, simply because of the complex way Bruce came across. Although not a martial artist Jason Scott Lee had a strong sporting background and a ‘great body!' After a fight training programme, Jason soon looked very much the part.
