Hoochie, pussy, bitch, hoe, honeys, baby are just a few derogatory terms used towards women that are the key ingredients in the recipe for a reactionary film. The film “Boys in the Hood” contained an overflow of these words along with a general theme that woman are incompetent and only good for sexual purposes. Among many reactionary messages portrayed in this film, there were three instances in particular that should convince the viewer of its patriarchal message. First, a mother gives her son to his father because she feels that being a man would make him better suited to raise him. Second, Tray’s girlfriend gives up her morals for him. Third, when a woman is finally presented a moment in which to express herself she is quickly put back in her place. In a society full of naggy and hysterical women, Tray’s mother felt the best way for her son to be raised was with his father. The creator of this film wants his audience to know that all a society needs is a strong father to raise the child, when a mother raises her children alone they end up wandering on the street and can potentially end up dead.
