Life is not at all as simple as we may imagine. Complications are brought forth to let us stumble and seek our way in the dark. No one but us can be held responsible for our own actions. In a way, I can understand the purpose of “American History X”, to teach the way not to go. Prejudice has been around for years. Edward Norton, playing Derek Vinyard, was a confused ‘skinhead’ that could only promote white supremacy. He hated certain people because they were not white, Protestant, hairless men. A coalition was made to keep the order within their neighborhood. White men only. The basketball occurrence in the beginning of the movie sets the tone for the actions preformed later on. The word, fuck (and many others) was used 205 times during the film. The basketball court had these white men calling the Coloreds several names that were slang for several things. Kike was also a word used. A Kike is slang for referring to a person of Jewish decent. Nigger is another word that is used as a common name for slamming a person of African American decent.
