This movie is about the gripping, penetrating, and engrossing examination of a diverse group of twelve jurors (all who are mostly white, middle-aged, middle-class status) who are uncomfortably brought together to deliberate after hearing the facts in a seemingly long murder trial. The movie opens with the Judge examining to the jurors their responsible to consider all the facts and if there is a reasonable doubt in their mind they must come back with a not guilty verdict. The twelve jurors are then off to deliberate the young defendant’s fate. While in the jury room the jurors are distracted by the heat, the broken fan and the fact that the guard locked them in the room, these are all examples of noise in the film. The twelve jurors seem to take their time settling down, a few of the jurors are talking, and some are smoking and wiping the sweat off of their face. They seem to think that this case is an open and shut one. The jurors just want to vote and get out of there and on with their lives. The jurors’ self image strongly affects their ability to communicate with each other, they come from different backgrounds and beliefs. Juror #1, the foreman, is a high school assistant head coach who tries hard to take the proceedings formal and maintain authority. He tries to control every aspect in the jury from sitting order to speaking order, and voting but becomes easily frustrated and sensitive when any of the other jurors object to his control.
