In Ana Castillo’s “Loverboys”, Castillo writes about a woman who is not like most women at the time. She is bold, independent, and intelligent. As with all that, she is also a bisexual Chicano woman. She owns her own bookstore and is somewhat of a pioneer in her town as well as a big partaker in the gay community. The story starts with a woman narrating an incident in her life. The woman meets a man, but she refers to him as a boy, at her bookstore. He is quite intelligent. They are able to talk about literature and poetry, and many other intellectual subjects. As time passes, the two adults start to enjoy each others company. One day the man comes over to her house to give her a poetry book, and in the course of things, they begin to make love. They do many things that lovers do such as, talking long hours in bed and going to the park. Almost every time they see each other they find a way to sleep with each other. They do the usual loving things for a while until the man’s family grows disturbed over his relation with the woman. They do not like him dating a bisexual. He doesn’t listen to his family and continues to date the woman. One day he tells her that he and a friend are going outside the country for a while. In return, she tells him that they should stop seeing each other for a while as well, thinking that the man would feel the pain of being away from her. On the contrary, it turns out that he has already left her and left no way of contacting him. The woman grows anxious and becomes depressed without him. She starts to move on with her life and dates a woman she met earlier. This woman keeps nagging the woman about her faults and this relationship is short-lived.
