The Hamiltons reproduce with a new child a year. George is sinless and neat in appearance, like Samuel. Conservative in both politics in life, he lived his life so that no one could find fault with him.
Samuel, rather atypical to this situation, is a suspicious character, because he is a foreigner and an Irishman, as though a farmer's wife might try and commit an affair with him. He was a farmer, and not an "educated" man, like the Delmars or the Thornes, even though Samuel has read more of the books from the Delmar's library than the Delmars had. Samuel is a practical man and frowns on needless Artsy Fartsy and draws only plans of iron or wood, but sometimes with a few little faces. Will had an inherit distrust of his father from hearing of the suspicion in the valley, and even though that suspicion faded among the people of the valley, Will's personality had formed and this distrust was there to stay. Will was born lucky. His hens laid eggs, and the price of eggs went up. He helped friends out of debt and the store became stores. Will bought a bike store, and after grudgingly engaging in cahoots with a man named Henry Ford, and became rich because of it.
Tom was most like his father and plunged headfirst into life. "He didn't discover the world and its people, he created them." Capable of giant joy, so did he harbor great sorrow. As inventive as his father was, Tom was even bolder. He remained a bachelor, mostly in part due to his driving sexual needs.
