a short essay on Bandura's theory

Outline and critically evaluate Bandura's theory. Behaviourism states that the environment in which we live causes our behaviour and therefore is a major part of our personality. Many psycholoists have attempted to investigate behaviourism using experimental methods which focuses on observables variables and manipulating one variable in order to see the effect on another. Pstchologists such as Skinner and Pavlov used this method to test operant and classical conditioning such as cats and dogs and although the results proved to be quite significant, the fact that animals were used was a downfall as you cannot compare the reaction time of animals to the reaction time of humans, because we are much more intellectually advanced. Bandura, who was considered a father the cognitive movement theorised much more effectively than Skinner because he added language and imagery to observation learning and self regulation. He looked at personality as an interaction in terms of environment, behaviour and the persons psychological process.
