About Me

My Journey

My life has undeniably been a tough but very enriching journey. I have gone through several hard situations that tested my resistance and my strength in order to become who I am today. The big changes I have faced in my life such as my parents' separation and my choice to come to New York definitely brought me challenges to overcome and opened my eyes for how much I admire the people who helped me.
The events that shaped who I am were mainly my parents¡¦ separation and my decision to come to the United States. When I was not even born my mother moved from Sao Paulo, Brazil, the city where she met my father to Rio de Janeiro in order to look for a better job. As far as I know, they had to decide who would have my custody because my father was studying medicine in Sao Paulo and he did not want to leave the city. This happened twenty-one years ago and since then I have had the opportunity to see my father only three times. Being raised only by my mother was beyond doubt an extremely difficult experience that I had to deal with. Also, my decision to leave Brazil, my family, my friends and everything I knew to come to New York was tremendously hard and complex for me. I was nineteen when I decided that my future would be better if I had the opportunity to study in America since the educational system here is considerably superior than the one in my country. It was difficult for me not only from a financial but also from a psychological point of view, because it changed completely my way of thinking and my lifestyle. I absolutely consider my decision to leave my country and my parents' separation the most important events of my journey.
Indeed, in order to reach this point of my life, I had to overcome numerous challenges such as accepting the fact that I did not have my father in my daily life and being able to adapt myself to a new country that has a completely different culture. Being...
