Acceptance

Dear Admissions Board,
I would just like to put in a word on my own behalf and tell you that I know that my grade point average and SAT's are probably not up to Appalachian State's standards but I have gone to a very difficult private school (The Bolles School) since the 7th grade. I have realized that I need to devote myself to school, albeit, a little to late, and I know when I put my mind to anything, I am capable of being successful. I like math and computers (I have even created my own web page on the internet.), and I plan on becoming a computer engineer when I graduate. I am a well liked eighteen year old guy that gets along with everyone. I like to play golf, be on the computer, and hang out with my friends.
I feel I will make a positive contribution to Appalachian State because I am a compassionate and intelligent person. Since my junior year I have participated in the Kaleidoscope Club of The Bolles School, and this year I am the acting president. Kaleidoscope provides daily care for young children of working parents who cannot provide care on their own. I contribute my time because I like helping those in need, and I hope to continue participating in community service activities at Appalachian State. I am privileged enough to have traveled to different parts of the world, two of which were third world countries and these events have made me a more perceptive and understanding person. As a result of these trips, I feel I have become a more perceptive individual and ready to take on any challenges that lie ahead of me.
