Role Of The Witches In Macbeth
The three witches, or “weird sisters” are they are referred to throughout the play, play a role very similar to that of the Fates in Greek mythology, which were oracle-type beings whom weaved the fabrics of human fate and death. Though when first introduced in Scene I, Act I they seem to be so ridiculously cliché that they could even be said to be comical, they are anything but; these representations of mischief and evil end up being the sole cause of Macbeth’s self-destruction and the murder of many innocents.
