Crucible
In The Crucible, it is amazing how a few children can be so manipulative in such a small town as Salem. These children of Salem are worried about their own reputations, so they lie, make false accusations, and take advantage of the whole situation. In such a religious town, like Salem, messing around with the Devil is not taken lightly. When a group of girls fall ill, witchcraft is questioned. It was then revealed that a group of girls including Abigail Williams, were out dancing in the woods naked. This goes on to blow up and turn all of Salem into one big witch trial questioning most of Salem. Somehow throughout The Crucible these girls were able to point their fingers and turn the heat from them to everyone else. In the process of doing this innocent people are accused and accusations were made. These children have many issues, especially Abby, and it is apparent throughout the book. Reputation was a great factor in The Crucible. John, Abby, and for the most part nobody of Salem wanted a bad reputation, be associated with witchcraft, and they even lied to keep from having a bad reputation. First off, when John Proctor found out about the dancing in the woods, he didn’t want it to effect his reputation so he hesitated to tell about his and Abby’s past.
